1.What did Lencho hope for?

Ans:  Lencho hoped for a downpour or at least a shower. Because, the only thing the earth was needed, the rain.

2.What/Why did Lencho say the raindrops were like ‘new coins’?

Ans:  The raindrops would have helped in getting better harvest , resulting more prosperity

So, Lencho said the raindrops were like ‘new coins’.

3.How did the rain change? What happened to Lencho’s fields?

Ans: At first, the big drops of rain began to fall. But/unfortunately, after some time, a strong wind began to blow and along with the rain very large hailstones began to fall. After that, the rain had changed to hailstorm.

After the hail, the field was white, as if covered with salt, not a leaf remained on the trees and  the corn was totally destroyed.

4. What were Lencho’s feeling where the hail stopped?

(extra Question: “Lencho’s soul was filled with sadness” why?)

Ans: After the hail stopped, Lencho’s soul was filled with sadness. He expressed that that year they would have no corn. Also, he sorrowfully said that they would go hungry that year. Again, he said that a plague of locusts would have left more than that or the hail.

1.Who or what did Lencho have faith in? What did he do?

Ans:   Lencho had deep faith in God.

      So, in that helpless situation  he wrote a letter to God and he informed about his problems. Also, he wanted a hundred pesos to sow his field again and to live until the crop comes.

2. Who read the letter?

Ans : When the postman saw that the letter was addressed to God, he laughed and took the letter to the postmaster, who then read the letter.        

 3.What did the postmaster do then/after read the letter?

Ans: At first, the postmaster readied to answer the letter by goodwill, ink and paper. But, when he knew about the matter of a hundred pesos, then he collected seventy pesos from his employees, several friends and part of his salary. At last, he had given the money to Lencho by a letter through the postman.

1.Was Lencho surprised to find a letter for him with money in it? if no why?

Ans:  No, absolutely not. Lencho had deep faith in God. So, he did not surprise or react strange to find a letter for him. Instead, he was angry for finding the less money he wanted.

2.What made Lencho(him) angry?

(extra question- Why did Lencho say “The post office employees are a bunch of crooks.”)

Ans:  Lencho wanted a hundred pesos to sow his field again and to live until the crop comes. When, he found seventy pesos in the letter then he was angry. He thought that the rest of the money were/was captured by the post office employees. So, for this reason, he commented, “The post office employees are a bunch of crooks

3. why does the postmaster send money to Lencho?Why does he sign the letter 'God'?

Ans : The postmaster sends money to Lencho in order to keep Lencho's faith in God alive. Secondly, he sticks to his resolution of answering the letter. Internally, he wants to help Lencho at this helpless time.

He signs the letter "God", so that Lencho's faith would not get shaken.

4. Did Lencho try to find out who had sent the money to him? Why/why not?

Ans:   No, Lencho had never tried to find out who had sent the money. This was because he had never suspected that that could be anybody else other than God who would send him the money. His faith in God was so strong, that’s why he believed that God had sent him the money.

5.Who does Lencho think has taken the rest of the money? What is the irony in the situation?

Ans:   Lencho thinks that the post office employees have taken the rest of the money.

The irony of the situation is that the employees whom he calls a 'bunch of crooks' and suspects of taking some of the money, these are the same people who has contributed and sent him the money in the first .
