1.Give a brief description of Ausable or who was Ausable? what a type of a man he was? How was  he different from the other secret agent?

Ans:-  Ausable was a secret agent. He was not fit  as a secret agent. He lived in a dark French hotel, on the sixth and top floor of the building. It was a small room. Ausable was very fat. He spoke the French and the German language, and also the American which brought to Paris from Boston.

Ausable did not fit any description of a secret agent. At first, he was very fat which should not be as a secret agent. Secondly, he lived in a small room which was not so good setting for a romantic adventure. At third, basically a secret agent has a spy, dealing in some secret files and danger characters but these were not available for Ausable.  Fourthly, in a secret agent’s house, some mysterious figures like the crack of pistols, drugs in the wine etc are usually happened in the night but it was totally different in Ausable’s room. Fifthly, at night, a secret agent has some messages slipped into his hand by dark-eyed beauties but instead Ausable got only a general telephone call making an appointment in his room.

For these reasons, Ausable was different from the other secret agents.

2.Who was Fowler? Why did he come to meet Ausable? What was his first authentic thrill of the day?

Ans: Fowler was a writer. He was young and a romantic person.Fowler came to meet Ausable to cover him up for writing a book on detectives. Therefore, Fowler had come to the hotel where Ausable stayed.

When Ausable and Fowler entered the Ausable’s room, they thought that it was empty. But, suddenly they saw a man, named Max. Who was standing in the middle of  the room with an  automatic pistol was in his hand.It was the first authentic thrill of the day for Fowler.

3.Who was Max? How has Max got into the room?

Ans:- Max was a secret agent (spy). He was thin ,a little tall and his face was like a fox.

He came to the Ausable’s room secretly to collect one most important report concerning some new missiles where several men and women risked their lives.Max had entered the room by the passkey.

Ausable said that Max got into his room by the balcony. Ausable technically said like this. He wanted to believe of a balcony to defeated Max. So, he suspected Max that he had entered his room by the balcony which was connected to his apartment.

4.How does Ausable manage to make Max believe that there is a balcony attached to his room?{2015;2019}What did Ausable say about the balcony.

Ans:- Ausable created a convincing story about the present of the balcony. He said that twice in a month somebody had entered his room through the balcony. He said that the balcony belonged to the next apartment. He also narrated that the room used to be part of a large unit. The next room through that door there used to be the living room. The balcony extended under his window and somebody entered his room through that.

Ausable's manner of description and speaking convinced Max there was indeed a balcony under his window. This story is totally a convincing story because if Ausable could not convince Max that he and Fowler might be face in danger.

5.Who was the midnight visitor in the story ‘the midnight visitor’?

Or:- Briefly describe how Ausable defeated Max’s scheme to take away the report.{2016}Or Describe how Ausable got rid of Max.

Ans:--The Midnight visitor was Max who had come to Ausable’s room to collect the important report concerning some new missiles.

Ausable got rid of Max by telling (Ausable defeated Max) the two convincing stories .One was the balcony.Ausable informed that someone entered his room in the month and that was the second time, Max entered his room through the balcony.Actually there was no balcony under the window.Other convincing story was the police. When Henry, a waiter knocked at his door then Ausable informed Max that that was the police whom he expected to come to give some extra protection for the report and to seek everything was alright or not. Thus, Ausable got rid of Max Or Thus, Ausable defeated Max’s scheme to take away the report.

When Ausable and Fowler entered the Ausable’s room, they thought that it was empty. But, suddenly they saw a man, named Max.
